Thanh Xà Bạch Xà: The Sorcerer and the White Snake - 2011 is a Chinese fantasy film that may not fully satisfy viewers, but the 200 million NDT blockbuster brings visually stunning imagery and sophisticated special effects. Set in ancient China, where demons and evil spirits are able to infiltrate the human world undetected, the film follows Fa Hai (played by Jet Li), a skilled sorcerer, and his clumsy disciple Neng Ren (Wen Zhang) as they track down a bat demon that preys on humans. The two must defeat the demon before it wreaks havoc at an upcoming lante festival. Unfortunately, during the battle, Neng Ren is bitten on the neck and transforms into a demon himself, forcing him to come to terms with his new fate. Xu Xian is a kind-hearted but poor herbalist who nearly drowns after being prankster by the White Snake spirit, Bai Suzhen (Eva Huang). Bai Suzhen's sister, the millennia-old White Snake (Charlene Choi), who has long admired Xu Xian, saves him from drowning. They meet again at the lante festival and begin a romantic relationship. However, their happiness is short-lived when one day Fa Hai discovers their village and uncovers Bai Suzhen's true identity.
